Victoria & Alfred Waterfront – Overall Design Vision

URBAN DESIGN

Victoria & Alfred Waterfront – Overall Design Vision

View Project

Cape Town’s Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is categorised as a ‘major waterfront transformation’, along with other international examples such as Darling Harbour in Sydney, Baltimore’s Inner Harbour, The Harbour front in Toronto and Teleport City in Tokyo.” Excerpt from ‘The New Waterfront - a Worldwide Success Story’ by One Breen ad Dick Rigby.

The waterfront development began in 1988 and is today one of South Africa’s most important tourist destinations, hosting over 24 million visitors annually. GAPP, in its role as Urban Designers for the original development framework, transformed a working harbour with creative and visionary design, into a tourism hotspot, without disrupting the activities of the original working harbour, fishing industry, Port Authority and related land and marine infrastructure.
